Is it okay to contact a college under a different first name than your own because you want to change it?

I'm a sopre in high school and recently took the PSAT. I did pretty well and collegeboard.com sent my information and scores out to colleges and I've been getting information packets from several colleges ever since. NYU was one of these colleges, and I'm really interested in it. They asked me to reply, correcting any mistakes with my name, address, and interests. I hate my first name, so is it weird or a bad thing to put down my desired first name instead of what my name actually is? I'm hoping to change it later down the road, but I can't do that until I'm 18 and I want to start college with my new name. Help? Advice?
